The Sexual Perversion Controversy.

The other day a friend of mine mentioned that he would be giving a presentation on “Sexual Perversion” and I thought it was an interesting and a controversial topic, to which he disagreed by saying and I quote “ To a normal mind and culture, sexual perversion is not a controversial topic…Maybe it is...to you guys living in the West"….
And that got me really thinking…..About how the lines between what we identify as good and bad behavior in different cultures have gotten blurry over the years and decades.

There is  an article on BBC Focus magazine pages 38-44 titled “Good to be Bad” by Luis Villazon. The article said that sexual perversion like Sadomachochism(Giving or receiving pleasure from acts involving infliction or reception of pain and humiliation) according to science, can strengthen relationships- I am yet to see or hear of anybody that can testify to that claim.

According to the dictionary, Sexual Perversion are conditions in which sexual excitement or orgasm is associated with acts or imagery that are considered unusual within culture. This includes, but not limited to,Paedophilia(sexual attraction to children), Transvestic fetishism(sexual interest in cross-dressing), Zoophilia(sexual attraction to animals), Necrophilia(sexual attraction to human corpse), Frotterism(sexual stimulation by rubbing against a person in public without the person’s consent).

In my opinion, Sexual perversion is a deviation from what is right in sexual behavior.
There is a scientific and political controversy regarding the continued inclusion of sex-related diagnoses  paraphilias ( experience of intend sexual arousal to atypical objects, individuals or situations) in the DSM ( Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders).

Some writers have argued that as long as the “act” is not causing any harm to anyone,so it is whatever floats every individual’s boat….and I find that very disturbing.
